For the second consecutive year, The Pointe residents have corresponded with several elementary classes as part of our Pen Pal Program. At the end of the school year, a group of residents visit the school and meet the children they have been sending letters to. The children were just as excited as the residents to finally meet. One class read stories to the residents and another gave a presentation on jaguars. The program is one of our most successful and popular among our residents and they are already looking forward to school starting in the fall. Not sure the kids feel the same about that though!

BREVARD, NC - On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, the combined forces of the Brevard High School music program offered their holiday concert at Brevard College's Porter Center for the Performing Arts. Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Chorus, and Jazz Band all provided color and energy in a festive holiday celebration that was followed by a reception outside the concert hall.

At the start of the Percussion Ensemble set, the audience learned that a generous donation from alumnus Frank Patton (BHS '43) and wife Donna, and the ingenuity of chorus teacher Rivers Smith, resulted in a new set of instruments for the group. These instruments were used only once at a professional conference before being made available to the band program - including xylophone, vibraphone, bells, and marimba. This contribution addressed a real need, with some of the band's instruments having been in service for 50 years or more.

Transylvania County Schools teaches fine arts at every level, with training in chorus, musical instruments, and now dance available across our nine schools.
